Michelle Pepper, Director of Therapy Services
Michelle’s interests in athletics led her to pursue a degree in physical education at Brock University. Following her undergraduate degree, she entered the Occupational Therapy program at McMaster University. Employing the traditional concepts of Physical health and disability she started her career at Community Care Access Centre (CCAC). Shortly thereafter she became a founding member of Therapy Partners Inc (TPI) and continued to provide community-based OT services. She quickly developed an interest in mental health and a passion for helping clients improve their quality of life. Working with clients in their homes provided a unique perspective of people coping with chronic pain, depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. Choosing to focus her efforts on mental health, Michelle left the community to work as a therapist in an inpatient setting. She enjoyed her work at the Homewood Health Centre for 17+ years, and gained further perspectives of clients’ experiences in an institution. She brought her community experience to an inpatient setting while learning from her many colleagues and clients. She is bringing her experience from both settings to Maxwelton. The Maxwelton Therapy Group approach is based on a desire to fulfill a need in our community by providing alternative outpatient services. We believe that we can help to initiate meaningful and comprehensive change, by providing a unique therapy option. Our brief and intensive programs have been designed to provide options that are sometimes only found in inpatient facilities.
Our choice of group intervention is based on having witnessed the benefits and dynamic power of personal connection that only group therapy can offer. We know that healing and self discovery is found through the connection of sharing with others.
Our therapists each have over 20 years of clinical experience in supporting people struggling with mental health issues. We are skilled in the facilitation of group and individual therapy and are experienced in both inpatient and community settings. Our therapists are regulated health care professionals affliated with their respective professional colleges and/or associations.
